I love receiving interesting leaves for my wall pockets - no two are alike in size or shape.
This one came from a friends garden in Santa Cruz, and is one of the largest I've created (successfully) in many months!

My wall pocket began as a single large Hollyhock leaf, pressed into the clay with a rolling pin to make the front of the piece. I then created a backing piece to form the pocket.

After drying for several days, it was low-fired, oxides were applied, and then it was fired at a higher temperature. For this particular leaf, I thought it was so beautiful instead of glazing it, I left it in its natural state.

It hangs with a heavy copper wire. It can be hung indoors or outdoors. On the back, the top is about 1" wide. As seen in the photos, it hangs at an interesting angle - just like a real leaf!

Though there is no drainage hole in the base, it can be used for either dried arrangements or a small plant. Or get really creative - use it to store pencils and a notepad!
