'Emerald Autumn' is a small, charming antique glass fishing float that will bring a sense of peace and happiness any time of the year. How is it that something so lovely was originally designed and produced for hard work in the fishing industry? Who would have guessed this brilliant form of natural art would live to fascinate and enrich the world - those of us who have discovered these old glass fishing floats. The rich legacy of these glass fishing floats is ingenious and I'm ever grateful. They can't cure life's problems, but provide endless inspiration and invite in the light of each day wherever you choose to display! And maybe having something small, beautiful and affordable in this life, is enough to encourage one to get up and do it all over again the next day:)

Emerald Autumn measures 2-1/2" diameter (the glass) or 7-7/8" in circumference including the width of the net. The net is in terrific condition. It's tight, intact and shows light natural wear from its decades at sea, yet remains in excellent shape. This is one of those very durable dual color, light gray and cream nets in polyester from the 1950's - 60's. During this time period many worn out natural fiber nets were replaced with high quality, original poly.

This superb little glass fishing float glows with a rich emerald olive green, especially in the seal or base area and again at the top (technically the 'bottom' where the glass blowing began, yet the 'bottom' as the float normally sits). The mid or equatorial area is much lighter in faint olive. The nice, thick antique glass shows normal wear from decades of work at sea, yet shows the typical high sheen gloss of the amazing old glass.

Oh, lucky! Bonus! I just picked up the float and gazed within to assess the bubbling (a scattering of teeny, tiny champagne bubbles show here and there) and noticed a little shard of loose glass inside the float! This is like writing your own fortune with a fortune cookie! A tiny piece of random glass will naturally break off from, perhaps inside the pontil, or around the blow hole now and then - almost never! But when we find this, it's a sign of great good fortune - and an opportunity to make a wish! Of course, the float is completely intact and whole. But look for this little anomaly and enjoy!

The small brilliant orange 'buddy' posing with Emerald Autumn in photo #2 is simply for fun. It is not part of this sale, nor for sale. It's a lovely, heavy glass, antique hand blown float of the 'Gift Trade Genre'. You may read about these bona fide collectibles, produced by some of the great companies such as Hokuyo Glass in the late 1950's on, right along side floats to be fished. The bright colors are coveted by collectors who understand the history and appreciate the quality and very limited quantities produced. You may read more in lightinawormhole's Shop Announcement, 1st page right under the shop banner, if interested.

Emerald Autumn's seal 'button' shows amazing, complex topography! Study it in photos #3 and #4. There's evidence of an attempt to 'mark' or sign seal. However, as is often the case, parts or pieces of marks often are missing. Some morphed into the warm glass, others 'fell off' the edge, or the topography was such that a stamping iron couldn't conform to the 'hills and valleys' of the warm seal. The seal is quite convex, nearly a little mountain or sorts, with great variation in the topography. So the 'mark' or marks will remain a mystery. But then you already get a wish on the glass shard within!

This large beautiful, glowing seal may appear to have rough or uneven edges, but it's all in the way the glass 'wrinkled' naturally. The surround edge on this seal is MINT. There are no nicks, no chips or grazing. Emerald Autumn is a lovely, small antique glass fishing float that promises to be a good 'buddy' for life. Enjoy:)
