This is a lovely old ring with pretty floral features and a very fiery old cut diamond.....

Crafted of solid 18K white gold, the ring features a diamond solitaire measuring approximately 4 mm, so estimated to be approximately .25 carats. It's a very fiery diamond and is an old cut...it has a teeny tiny open culet and looks to me to be a late old European cut or a transitional cut. It has very good color that I would judge to be in the G-H-I range of near-colorless and looks eye-clean to me. Under my 14x loupe I can see two crystalline inclusions and no carbon at all. I don't see any nicks, chips or scratches, either...the diamond is in very good condition.

It's prong-set into a pretty 6 x 6 mm square mounting with nice milgrain detailing still present. The prongs do show wear (especially two of them) and I would recommend having them retipped before the ring is worn daily.

There is nice pierced work around the squared setting and detailed flowers on each shoulder and on the undergallery of the ring on both sides. Additional detailing continues down the top of the shoulders and on both sides of the band until a little more than halfway around the band. The detailing shows some wear, especially on the undergallery flowers where I can tell this ring was worn with two guard rings....otherwise the detailing is still in very nice condition. The face of the ring measures approximately 8 x 12 mm and the rise off the finger is approximately 6 mm.

The band is slender by design and is still quite strong, though does show some thinning and general wear at the very back of the band. (the back of the band is polished allowing for resizing) The inside of the band still has a worn mark for 18K gold and very faint indications of another mark - probably an old maker's mark. The ring's total weight is a nice 2.85 grams.

Currently the ring is a size 6.5 and it could be sized within reason by a good jeweler who is experienced with older jewelry. I would expect that it would need gold added to the back of the band if you were to size it up more than a size or so. ** Please read my policies page for more informtation regarding sizing or feel free to convo me to discuss it or to obtain a quote from my trusted jeweler....I'm also happy to help locate a recommended jeweler in your area!

A sweet, pretty and feminine ring...perfect as an engagement or promise ring...or perhaps a ring to add to your own collection....
