Vintage wood crate World War II Ammo Box for 37mm Automatic Gun. 1940's crate has metal latch on end and rope handle on lid. Durable crate lasted over 70 years!

Lid marked: Ammunition for Cannon w/Explosive Projectile
Side marked: 37MM Guns M1A2 and AN-M3 Shell, HE, M54 10 Rounds. P5EAC.
Shell markings are on the ends too.

HISTORY:
The 37 mm Automatic Gun, M4, known as the T9 during development, was a 37 mm (1.46 in) autocannon designed by John Browning and used in the Bell P-39 Airacobra and P-63 Kingcobra fighters, as well as experimentally on other designs. Ammunition was issued in the form of fixed rounds, consisting of H.E. shell, M54.
