These earrings are patterned after the old Santo Domingo Pueblo "joclas". Joclas are a small string of beads at the bottom end of a necklace. The beads in the center usually contrast with the other beads surrounding it. They are long and narrow and look like really long hoop earrings. Joclas are a very old tradition in the native american jewelry.

I beaded this pair of joclas with turquoise heishi and indonesian glass beads in the color of burnt rustic orange with tiny ethiopian brass heishi to separate the colors. Joclas usually hang very very long, but I designed these to be a shorter pair....they hang on a simple brass french earwire 2 3/4" long from the top of the earwire to the bottom of the hoop.
