This is a beautifully rendered bas-relief of George Washington in silhouette, done in the 19th century. It was probably for the 1876 centennial of the Declaration of Independence, which was widely celebrated that year,.... or perhaps the 1899 anniversary of our first and very beloved president's death.

The patina is wonderful. The portrait in bronze is mounted on a brass background. It was framed in an authentic Eastlake style incised frame of the period which has a gold fillet. The piece is completely ready to hang...needs no restoration.

The brass backing on which the bronze is mounted is 12" x 10". Framed, it measures 16" x 14".
It is quite heavy. Please feel free to e-mail with any questions you may have.
