Deco Period English Vitrified China - Hotel Restaurant Ware Creamer - John Maddock and Sons Ltd - Distributed by J R Gibney - Gothic Pattern

This little green and white creamer has a striking art deco look! The information on the base indicates that the pattern is called “Gothic” and was produced by John Maddock & Sons Ltd. Also noted on the base is that this piece was made for J. R. Gibney, who at the time had a prominent New York restaurant and hotel supply house.

I’ve been unable to track down this exact pattern or for which hotel/restaurant this particular pattern was created. It was definitely created after 1855 and very likely this was created during the 1920s or 30s because of the style--the lines, color and classic deco motif.

This would made an adorable little trinket dish or even just a great display piece.

Information on the base:

Picture of a lion with raised paw
Vitrified (which means the surface has been made nonporous and shiny by use of glaze)
John Maddock & Sons Ltd.
England
Gothic
Made for
J. R. Gibney
New York

Condition: A darkened area on inside near the handle due to a small chip. A few other manufacturing flaws--the biggest is that some of the green smeared on one side before it was glazed. The other I find totally charming--the fact that there is almost more information on the base than there was room to write it!!

Size: approximately 5-½” long, 1-¾” wide, 2-1/2” high
