Group of twenty one extra nice 150 year old beach tumbled slag glass pebbles in lovely Blues and Green.
These beauties were created during the iron smelting process of the mid 19th century. The main impurity in the raw iron was silica (glass). The iron was melted using the intense heat of a hardwood fired blast furnace. The colorful glass, or slag as it was known, floated to the top and was skimmed off and discarded in the big lake. It has tumbled in the waves for over a century, smoothing the rough edges and providing a thrill for sharp eyed beach-combers.
