This is a nice George Wostenholm & Son's straight razor that dates from 1848 to 1890. The "Celebrated IXL Razor" came from Sheffield, England and is sought after for it's quality workmanship.

The mark on the side of the blade reads:

George Wostenholm & Son's
Celebrated IXL Razor
Washington Works

The blade is sharp and looks to be in good shape, however there are a few small nicks about half way down the blade edge. The scales are black with a subtle wood grain and have a small chip that you can see in the first photo.

The box is stamped "W. C. Smith Sandusky O. 712 Water Str." and "Price $2.50". There is census information for a William Smith in Sandusky, Ohio during that time but might not be a match.

Size: 6-1/2" overall with a blade that is 3" long and about 5/8" high.
