1949 Replogle 12" Starlight Black Oceans Globe w/Retro Base

This is an incredible 1949 12" Starlight globe by Replogle. Legend reads: Designed and edited by Gustav Brueckmann, cartographer.

The globe is constructed of coated paper gores over pasteboard. The oceans are finished in black and contrast beautifully with the brightly colored land masses. There is a time dial at North Pole.

The mounting is a matt silver half ring cast metal meridian indexed on both sides and it sits upon a retro chromed desk top base designed to hold paperwork or desk essentials! Not many of this style survived in such nice condition! I have taken pictures at every possible angle so that you might get the full effect of this globe on this particular base!

The condition of this globe is good to very good!! The paper gores are tight and firmly attached. The colors are bright and vivid and there is no loss of map anywhere. The equator tape is fully intact with minimal wear in the form of light scattered scuffs that have to be searched for! There is minimal soiling and scuffing. There is some light crackling to the gores and the odd wrinkle or two but nothing at all detracting! (see picture #3 to see the wrinkle in the ocean) The base is in very nice condition also. There are two small areas at the back of the indentation meant to hold paperwork that have lost the chrome shine but again nothing detracting. There is minimal wear to the base and meridian in the form of light scattered scratches and light pitting. The base itself shines like a mirror!

The date was determined by the political borders as follows: Indochina no longer French and present, Thailand present, Korea undivided, Isreal present.

The Starlight globe is a staple in any collectors gallery and would be a great way to start a collection!

As always, ENJOY!!!
