"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," Bilbo Baggins used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to." ~ The Fellowship of the Ring

Where would YOU like to be swept off to that requires a fabulous vintage bag to help you get there? You provide the destination and we've got the perfect suitcase for you.** What a beaut...OK, we admit it, we think ALL vintage suitcases rock! But texturized, two-tone marled brown leather (feels and looks like it, at least - could be vinyl, though) with chrome accents, all together with the silver Samsonite emblem still proudly and firmly affixed make this traveling suitcase circa '50-60s especially fetching. Notice the "Samsonite Silhouette TRAVEL BUREAU Samsonite Corporation Denver" nametag sewn into the lining inside? The interior is lined with a rich, brown/black quality fabric showing almost no wear whatsoever. Love that it still has the previous owner's name/address label carefully affixed to the reinforced plastic interior -- you can thank William for doing such an excellent job taking care of this bag so you can now consider making this handsome example of mid century luggage your own!

This is not your usual, completely hard-sided suitcase; instead, although it does have a fairly sturdy leather or leather-like exterior, it is more like a soft-sided suitcase -- although still quite sturdy -- that is further reinforced with hard plastic inserts at key places, such as all the corners. It has a special plastic and metal mechanism to hold your hangers so you can easily place your suits or fancy-schmancy clothes under the zip-up fabric insert and extra strap that snaps across the bottom of the clothes, hang the hangers inside, and shut the hanger holder and your clothes will be neatly corralled and stay as wrinkle-free as possible! What a cool concept! Besides the main clothes-hanging area, there is also a slim pocket for you to place a few other items. Another special feature of this suitcase are the four little rubber 3/4" feet that it perches itself on. Those feet are probably a large part of the reason why this suitcase has survived in such amazing condition for so long! Thank you, feet.

In excellent vintage shape, this suitcase is extremely clean both inside and out, does not have any weird smell to it, and all stitching is still firmly intact and holding strong -- this is a quality bag, no doubt. The handle is held on strong, all labels firmly affixed, and zippers all work great and fully, zipping the bag up in multiple, convenient ways, although they are a bit stiff, as is the case with most vintage suitcases. The zipper pulls are long and quite sturdy -- stunning in their mod rectangular design, actually -- but note that one zipper pull has been bent forward about 30 degrees (now that must have been something heavy to do that!), still works fine, though. The primary wear of the bag shows up as a few surface punctures toward the bottom of the bag's leather on either side, and there are also a couple other minor leather abrasions scattered that appear to be from other bag's zippers scraping the side that are completely invisible except in certain light. None of these "war scars" are very noticeable unless looked at up closely since they blend in with the brown leather around it, and do not interfere with either its beauty or practical use. There is a small padlock that we do not, alas, have the key for, so you get the lock, but no key.

The overall impression is that this is one special and completely functional bag -- you won't go unnoticed carrying it, that's for certain!

Zipped up, the suitcase measures approx.:
23" wide
14 1/2" tall
8" deep

Unzipped and extended for clothes, it measure approx.:
31 1/2" long

** Dolly & Gigi not included in the bag. They'd like to meet you, actually, but if they snuck inside the bag before shipping, they'd then be late for second breakfast. Especially with Dolly, that would not go over too well. They both send their kisses to you, though!
