For quite some time, after I would shape a hand plane from pieces of wood I found in garbage cans and other locations, the scraps would kick around on the floor for a bit until I got the motivation to pick them up. They usually went to start my bonfires. Then one day, when I saw the material piling up, I thought to myself “hey, there’s a lot of wood there.” So, being resourceful, I cut down the scraps into strips and laminated them together, making a sort of Frankenstein blank of beautiful wood. I guess you can call it double upcycling. Did I invent a new term? Upcycled wood, upcycled again to from this; a beautiful, functional piece of art. Now, about that shape…

Perhaps the missing link between mankind and fun, the Warp Tail is the rendezvous of style and function. Clean shape, proven technology and unmistakable looks, it is everything you want in a hand plane, and perhaps more. Generous wave sliding surface area, wicked concave in the rear half and a hulled nose gets you up and planing in no time, and the hard rails let you cut something fierce. Hand shaped for your enjoyment from a multitude of woods, starting from the center, an oak stringer, quartersawn pine, maple and yellow pine mini panels on the outside, with an upcycled nylon strap and shiny brass hardware.

This is a little wider than the normal template of a Warp Tail, so it’s more practical for a wider variety of waves. 12” x 7.125” x .75” Serial # 34

Comes complete with a carrying bag that I sewed myself (actually, the first thing I ever really sewed. Came out amazing thanks to the guidance from a particularly talented seamstress) from cut-offs of shorts. Nothing went to waste here!

Finished in Helmsman Spar Urethane, to fully protect this plane for years to come from the countless hours you or others will be spending in the water with it.

*fin NOT included.

Enjoy The Stoke!
