This is a very very unique, and very old locket. I have never seen one like this before, and instead of plastic inserts, it actually has real glass on either side. Celluloid (plastic) was invented in 1870, and by the early 1900's, lockets had celluloid inserts inside to protect the photos. This leads me to believe this locket is from the late 1800's, probably the1880's-1890's, when they were still using glass photo covers in lockets, as celluloid was too new to be mainstream yet.

The locket is rose-gold filled most likely. The condition is great for its age, with just some tarnish here and there that I really think could be taken off with a detailed polishing. It opens and closes very well and securely. It has all of its parts, as you can see from the pictures, and I have added a new, handmade gold filled chain. The chain measures 18" in length, but is adjustable and can be worn at 17 and 18 inches.

The locket measures approximately 1 inch long (excluding loop and bale) and 13/16 of an inch wide.

*If this is a gift for someone special and you need a pretty silky gift pouch, leave a note at checkout for me. They are complimentary and I'll include one in your package for each locket you need.

**If you buy more than one locket at a time, you pay shipping for the first locket and any additional are shipped free :)

Buy with confidence, I value both my customers and my lockets, and if you are not happy I gladly accept returns and exchanges. The lockets I sell are old and sentimental, and each person needs the right match.
