This piece is handmade of stoneware clay, making it a one-of-a-kind item. When it is completely dry I burnish the pot with a small stone creating the mirror-like appearance. Each unique piece is fired using the Horsehair raku process where the pot is removed from the kiln while still red-hot and horsehair is applied to create the unique black markings. This piece is fumed with an iron solution to create the varying shades of red to light orange. When the piece has cooled, it is cleaned and then polished with three coats of wax to seal and protect the surface from being marked by oils when people handle it. The result is a soft glowing organic patina which looks more like wood or marble than clay. The final step is to inlay small turquoise chips into the incised deigns, creating a truly unique decorative item.

The pot is 4 ½ inches in diameter and 6 inches in height.

Horsehair pieces complement a wide range of décor and design. The beautiful black marks make for a bold and subtle contrast that is particularly eye-catching. It is strictly decorative and works well as a stand-alone ornament or used with dry arrangements. Water should never be left to sit in the piece. A plastic or glass insert could be inserted if you plan to use the pot as a vase for fresh flowers.
