"My Heart", Oil on canvas. Signed and dated on back.
11 x 14 x 1.25 inches

Arrives carefully wrapped and packaged in cardboard box.

This painting was made in 2007. She was made for a show, titled "Untitled Love Project" that happened in Long Beach, and then the painting landed the cover of "The District Weekly" a little while later. (Truth be told, my friend was editor).

My idea for this painting came from wanting to make a "traditional portrait" styled painting of a woman with an empty stage for her heart. I guess it is like the "life is but a stage" sentiment, but replacing life with what can be considered perhaps the most dramatic organ: the heart. In this case, the stage is empty, and hollow, through which you see straight through to the background trees. The red curtains part and reveal...nothing...but nature. A performance could have just ended; another one could be just about to begin. Either way, this is the midderlschmertz. The ovulating pain that is all about potential, and waste at the same time. Perhaps this is putting a literal face to that emptiness that one feels when love doesn't go your way. And yet the green eyes that mimic the trees reflects us back to the thing that isn't emptied out: nature.

Thank you for looking,
