Frequently asked questions about CocoandChia

This is So Important to me!  I work with metals that have been reclaimed from old jewelry and other sources.

The metals I work with are Recycled Precious Metals.

The white diamonds I work with are ethically sourced, natural, untreated diamonds. Whenever possible I work with recycled diamonds.

Other diamonds that I work with are ethically sourced, non-conflict gemstones.

Black and most colored diamonds have been heat treated and/or irradiated to bring out the color.

White diamonds are natural, untreated gems.

The oxidation (black patina) is only a surface treatment to the metal using a sulfur compound.

It will not last – there is not a way to do this.  The length of time that it lasts depends on how you “use your hands” and whether you take your ring off and on to do things like dishes and gardening.

You have to be OK with the look of your ring changing as it will!

The black patina can be restored by your local jeweler, or you can do it yourself using Liver of Sulfur or hard boiled eggs.  Search engines can tell you a lot about how to do this.

You will notice changes to your ring the first time you wear it.  Rings scuff up and get dinged with wear.
Yes, the matte finish will change as well.  It will want to become more shiny.

The matte finish on rings can be maintained by using a Scotchbrite pad in gentle, circular motions – use dry without soap. Do not polish.

The finish on all rings will change – rings take a lot of abuse and it will happen for sure.

Rings will scuff up and ding with wear – it just happens.

To clean diamond rings – Soak in warm water and mild soap – use mild soap and a soft toothbrush if needed.

Everyone is so different!  I strongly suggest having a professional jeweler determine your ring size for the width of the band you want to purchase.

Visit one or more shops/galleries and try on rings and have more than one person determine your size

I do not trust methods where you measure using a string or a piece of paper – it doesn’t take into consideration the thickness of the metal, the width of the ring, your knuckles .. really, please visit some shops and galleries and be professionally sized.

Rings with flush set stones are Not Easily Re-Sized.

That is why it is so important to get the right size to begin with. The rings cannot be stretched or compressed like a band without a stone can be.

If it turns out that you order an incorrect size, please contact me.

These things happen.  Sometimes, despite the best efforts, the sizing is wrong.

You can return the ring to me, get professionally sized and I will either adjust the ring or make you a new one.

I pretty much make everything to order.  I am a small shop and do not have a lot of precious metal and diamonds around!

I usually am able to make your ring and ship to you in about three weeks of when the order is placed.   Sometimes sooner, and sometimes it takes me four weeks.

All jewelry is packed in a simple, pretty, cardboard gift box with ribbon and card.
I'm sorry, I don't do any engraving or marking inside of rings.

My rings are suitable for engraving though and most local jewelers will do this for you.

I don't put any markings inside the ring to interfere with this.
Here's some info on maintaining the patina - I really wish it would last but it will begin to change right away.

A lot of people like to let the ring fade (looks great the whole time I think) and then when they feel like it, made it dark again.

Here's (way more info than you might want):

You can "DIY" to restore the finish - I use liver of sulfur gel and some people use eggs - search engines have good tutorials - here's some info:

This is what I use:

There are some great tutorials online - just search for oxidizing silver.

It is a sulfur thing so it is Stinky!
A lot of people in the EU are surprised when they receive a parcel from outside the EU and the postal service/customs/your country charges you VAT and postal processing fees to receive the package.

Every country is different and has a different threshold for what can be imported - please have a look at the website for your country to see what the charges will be.

Also, people in Canada and some other countries will be charged postal processing fees - please check things out OK!

Thanks!
