This vintage 1940s or 50s swimsuit is made from a floral print cotton fabric with all-over circular elastic smocking. It has open cut-out sides and the straps wrap to the back through side rings and a center tab on the shorts. (There are several different ways to run the straps, and I photographed it with the straps the way they were when I got the suit. However, looking at it now, I’m not convinced they shouldn’t go through the tab first, then up to the rings, tying at the center back. At the very least, they probably ought to criss-cross. You can experiment to see what works best for you.) The crotch is lined in white cotton jersey knit. There are no tags.

Measurements, taken flat:
Bust: 12”
Waist: open
Hips: 15”
Length (top of bust to crotch): 23.5”
Note: this fabric stretches.

For reference:
The mannequin’s measurements are 34-22-34. The suit fits as shown; it’s not pinned or otherwise altered to fit the mannequin.

I don’t accept returns for fit issues, so be sure to compare these measurements to your own garments before purchasing. If you need additional measurements, just convo me.

This suit is in good vintage condition with some stretching to some of the elastic, most notably around the legs (which do still have some stretch), in the center between the cutouts (no stretch really needed here, but it still has a little), and in the right cup. You can see this last issue most noticeably in the last photo, which shows the suit on a hanger inside out. You can see the elastic cup support hangs a little lower on one side. This is because some of the elastic circles toward the top of the cup don’t stretch vertically anymore, although they do still stretch side to side. Probably the suit was hanging from this single strap for an extended period of time and this put stress on those few upper elastic circles on the one side only. This issue is less obvious when the suit is on because the bust stretches the other side out, evening them up for the most part. Both cups are still quite stretchy otherwise. There’s a little stretch loss across the hips as well. It does still stretch there, just not as much as it originally did.

Right now, mostly the suit still stretches and contracts like it should, but the elastic is vintage and at some point it will stretch out and stay stretched out. I have no idea when this might occur (maybe after one wearing, maybe 10 years from now), but once it happens, it will be nearly impossible to fix. The lower price reflects the current and future condition. This suit is sold as is.
