Offered is an amazing wooden collar or ring cut from a natural tree burl. I just couldn't resist picking this up at a flea market, although I don't have the skills to make it into something wonderful. I am sure it is perfect for a basket maker or some other form of assemblage art. The ring is roughly cut, I am thinking on a band saw. It is 3 1/2' high at the tallest, but has a very uneven edge, part of which shows the remaining natural bark from the tree. The ring varies from 3/8" to 3/16" in thickness, so it seems very strong and sturdy, not brittle at all. As it is, the ring is about 8" in diameter, outside. The wood WAS a continuous ring, the two sides of the cut match up, but as it dried the wood shrunk and now there is a 1 1/2" gap between the two sides of the cut. It was cut to show all the graining and swirls o f the burl on the side opposite the cut. This piece was taken lengthwise from the original hunk of wood, so you have the tree ring pattern on each side, flanking the burl. I don't know any history of this piece, how long ago it was formed, but the wood is very light and dry, so I know it was quite a while ago, maybe a few decades. Since it is rough cut, the figuring does not show up well in the pix, but when I washed it (you don't WANT to know how dirty this was when I found it!), and it was wet, all the lovely graining of the burl and the rest of the patterns in the collar stood out. I am sure with sanding, polishing and oil or wax, this will be stunning. This piece was carefully cut, I am sure the most difficult part of getting a wood collar like this, and is very well aged and stable. Drill your holes along the base, add your weaving material – and create a masterpiece. The pint size Mason jar is just to give an idea of scale, not included.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS – outside the United States -- shipping is NOT $77.00

-- I AM HAPPY TO SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, but international shipping costs vary so much for my vintage items, that I ask my potential international buyers to PLEASE convo me for costs PRIOR TO PURCHASE. The shipping price listed for EVERYWHERE ELSE is intentionally crazy high – PLEASE DO NOT PAY IT WITHOUT CONVOING ME FIRST. I will happily calculate your correct shipping price, based on your location and how you want it shipped . Please understand, I cannot get insurance for many international locations. I can usually only track it within the US. I have had VERY FEW lost items shipped overseas, but I cannot be responsible for it once it goes into the US Post. Overseas buyers may have to pay customs or duty upon receiving their item, but it is NOT my responsibility to pay it for you and I cannot build it into the shipping cost. I will put the exact selling price on the customs forms.

Please contact me if you have questions or think I have left something out.

Although I am new to Esty, I sold on ebay since 1997. I hope to find a home here.

I try to price my vintage items fairly – I want them to find appreciative new homes. If you LOVE an item, but think it is a little out of your range, convo me with an offer and I will see what I can do.

I pack items VERY well and try to ship as inexpensively as is safely possible but I DO add a small bit for supplies. On things that have to go Priority Mail, I base my shipping cost on the West Coast, which makes a BIG difference on the heavier items. If you are closer, I encourage you to Convo me for an adjusted price. If you don't, and the shipping works out higher than it should, I try to add an extra little treasure from my stash to make it up to you.

I proudly use, mostly, recycled packing materials. If you have an issue with that, please convo me at purchase.
