Thank you for visiting my shop.
I turned this beautiful natural edged bowl from a piece Maple that a tree trimmer friend of mine gave me. As you can see the colors of the wood and bark are quite striking. Colors range from yellow and gold to white and cream. The bark that remains intact is rustic and enchanting. Maple is a great craft wood and is the wood of choice for bowling pins, bowling alley lanes, pool cue shafts, and butcher's blocks. Maple wood is also used for the manufacture of wooden baseball bats, It is a very hard wood. The beautiful bowl measures approximately 8 inches diameter at its widest point and approximately 5 inches tall. There are two yellow “flashes” on either end with two small natural checks, one on each end, that have been stabilized. I have signed and dated the bottom.
I finished the bowl with a cellulose sealer and several coats of lacquer. While not finished for use with food it can be used to hold ornaments, decorations or fruit or simply displayed as a piece of art.
