SUBJECT MATTER/STYLE: A charming genre of embroidery that comes from the western highlands of Guatemala; this one from our friend Isabelle of Chichicastenango.

She weaves a Quiche' story, a mythic reflection in each of the six quadrants of the textile. They range in subject matter from cosmic union to the power of the Quetzal bird in Mayan history.

Of course the embroidery of wool is 100% by her hands and no two are alike... in fact, they range so widely we can never get two similar pieces out of her. See photo #5 for the back, to see the handiwork.

SIZE: 34" x 34" with loops on the corners for conveniently hanging if that is the choice.

NOTE: The amazingly dense series of narratives done w/such care and traditional naivete make this more than a wall hanging but a glimpse into another world and time-consuming work of art.

ABOUT US: We work directly with artisans and families here in Guatemala. In the spirit of fair trade, they get their asking price for all items in our store. Add a truly unique piece to your collection while helping this struggling economy.

SHIPPING: We combine in the way that saves you the most money. Please contact us before buying multiple items to discuss prices and weights of items.... and of course any other questions or concerns, we are here for you. Thank you!

.......Our Best, Permtran (Jon + Vicky)
