About:

"Robert Larin" is a name which is gaining currency at Canadian auction houses and important antique shows, however, very little is known about this artist whose inspirational works and an impressively large and diverse collection produced in a very short period of time demands attention to this day.

Based in Montreal, QC, Larin began designing jewelry in his mid-20s, working between 1968 and 1977 - a nine year period - which yielded a sophisticated body of work echoing the rebellious aesthetics of brutalism.

Larin's factory was located on rue Papineau, where he employed some 25 workers, most of whom were hearing-impaired. All workers communicated with sign-language.

Larin used the “lost wax process” employing pewter as opposed to any other more refined or precious metals. A lot of precise handwork was then executed to get each piece filed, plated and polished, giving it that "personal touch." Oxidization can oftentimes be seen in his works offering a striking contrast between raised surfaces and crater-like voids. Very seductive!

Much like the work of Guy Vidal, Larin's jewelry is very sculptural and quite experimental
