Made by the Elizabethan pottery in Staffordshire, England, this very pretty teacup duo is part of Elizabethan's Versailles series.

As the Versailles name suggests, these hand decorated pieces have been created in homage to the beauty and glamour of the famous French royal palace renowned for its lavish and stunning exterior and interior design.

A wonderfully subtle dusky blue/mauve colour wash appears on the upper inside rim of both the cup and saucer, top and tailed by a simple gilt line to the top and a more embellished gilt flourish to its lower sides.

The gilt flourish is also repeated on the outside of the cup against a fresh white backdrop.

A further application of fine gilt coats the shapely foot and handle of the cup.

Both the centres of the cup and saucer feature a delicate posy of blue and pink meadow flowers set within a circular chain of tiny swags and swirls in harmonising tones.

Marie Antoinette glamour and exuberance are exemplified in this lustrous duo, and it is not difficult to imagine a set like this being used by flamboyant French aristocrats at a Versailles tea party hundreds of years ago.

This sophisticated teacup duo is in very good vintage condition, with no chipping, crazing or cracking.

The underneath of the cup and saucer are back stamped with the words: "Elizabethan"; "Staffordshire"; "Hand Decorated"; "Fine Bone China"; and "England" - confirming they from the Elizabethan pottery, hand painted and made with bone china.

Vital Statistics:

Height including saucer: 7 cm

Width of teacup including handle: 13.5 cm

Width of saucer: 15.5 cm
