Red handmade lampwork glass bead whorl, Viking style historical inspired bead support spindle, medieval style spinning, lace or light weight wool spinning tool, whorl with handmade hardwood spindle stick for support spinning. Whorl has a mildly tapered hole. These whorls and sticks are based on historic whorl finds with a modern twist. Red core, encased in clear with bright aqua and silver wire accents.
** This whorl is a well balanced, quick spinner.

*** Low spindle stick alert~ I am nearly out of spindles, so that option has been removed. If you need one, please ask before purchase. It may be several days before I have them again. They are an additional $16. Hershey Fiber Arts here on etsy has a nice price on a three pack~ just ask her if the shop is empty. https://www.etsy.com/shop/HersheyFiberArts

* Whorl weight~ 18g ; 1 in. diameter and 1 in. tall, hole is almost 1/4 inch at largest end.
* Stick with whorl~ approx. 23 g.
* Length of support spindle stick~ About 10 in; spindle extends about 3/4 in. below whorl.

Whorl may not come on precise stick pictured, but it will be essentially the same- walnut, cherry or hickory made by Hershey Fiber Arts. Please let me know if you have a strong preference for wood type. Stick pictured is walnut.
** If you'd prefer an 8.5 inch drop spindle, please ask before purchase and I will see if I have one on hand.

This whorl is a quick, balanced spinner, just what I like to see! Push the o-ring up firmly with your fingernail once whorl is in place. To find the smoothest spinning 'sweet spot', put on the whorl and turn slowly until it spins as you like. Please be sure the whorl is on right side up~ hole is mildly tapered to fit stick.

Though these whorls are very resilient, they are glass and it is recommended that you spin over a softer surface such as wood, a rug or carpet. Over time, the stick will develop compression marks caused by the firm fitting of the whorl.

Whorl is handmade lampwork glass made by Laurie Ament of Isinglass Design.

This Viking- inspired spindle is bottom-weighted and best for spinning lace weight or light weight yarn. It is a light weight two part spindle~ removable glass whorls make it easy to transport. See below for more information about using this hand spinning tool.

OOAK- Each glass whorl is individually handmade and one of a kind. Even I could never make another one exactly like it.

SRA #A39 (self-representing artist) art glass from Isinglass Design; all of my beads are handmade lampwork (flamework) glass made by me, properly kiln annealed and well cleaned. The glass used in this whorl is the same as that used to make glass beads in Italy (Murano).

This is my second whorl by Laurie. My first one was well made, very beautiful, and generally a good whorl, but it turned out to be a bit too light for my purposes at 14 g. This one is a tad heavier (19 g) and is a good fit for me. Both whorls arrived well packaged with a little note and an extra (a stitch marker with the first one and a bead with this one). They both fit perfectly on the Hershey spindle sticks and I appreciate that they come with teeny o-rings to help them stay in place. All around, great whorls, beautiful artistry, and a great seller. Definitely recommended. Oh, and I also recommend the stitch markers too if you ever see them up for sale. I love the one I received a lot.

I love the blues in this whorl, and the swirls, both between the layers, and within the lighter blue section. It's beautiful! Shipped really fast and is just as described, spins really well. I love these glass whorls because they spin very quickly and also have a nice sustain because of the weight of the glass. I really love all four of these.

This whorl is so beautiful. I put the whorl on the spindle and gave it a spin...amazing balance and beauty. I just placed another order!

This spindle is sublime! And so gorgeous, like owning a little jewel. I need more stars to rate this, at least 10! I also bought two others of within several days of each other, and they are my new favorite spindles. I had never used a Viking/medieval spindle, with the whorl separate from the stick before. I have dozens of Tibetans and quite a few Russians as well. The weight of the glass at the bottom of the stick makes the spindle spin much longer than a Russian, but also faster than a Tibetan. This enables me to spin with a semi-continuous spinning method almost as easily as on a very long-spinning Tibetan. The speed of the spin cuts back on the effort required to flick the spindle, which enables one to pack on more yarn. A win-win all around! If you are considering a purchase, you will be thrilled if you do it!
