Doll Miniature Zenobia

Zenobia (240 – c. 274) in Roman Syria. She led a revolt against the Roman Empire. Zenobia became queen of the Palmyrene Empire in 267. By 269, Zenobia had expanded the empire, conquering Egypt and expelling the Roman prefect, Tenagino Probus. She ruled over Egypt until 274, when she was defeated and taken as a hostage to Rome by Emperor Aurelian.

Inspired by a sketching by Michelangelo, his unique miniature is full of rich detail. I created her in a silken gown of pale lavender with sheer ivory scarf and silver trim accents. Her real fiber hair is hand styled and she wears amethyst colored jewels and a silver head piece that is accented with silver pearls.

Created out of wood, wire, clay, and paint
