This beautiful one-of-a-kind stocking is made from a silk and velvet crazy quilt that was made in the late 1800s. Each side of the stocking has a handpainted flower design. One side has wonderful pansies and the other has dainty daisies. The fabrics are mostly silks and velvets, and there is lovely embroidery along most of the edges of the different pieces. I used black velveteen for the foldover cuff and vintage black moire ribbon for the hanging loop. The cuff is accented with a handmade vintage-style millinery flower. The full lining is a light gold tonal cotton fabric with a subtle white snowflakes design.

I finish my stockings on both sides whenever possible, so they can be hung with the toe pointing in either direction or in a place where both sides will be seen. This approach results in versatile stockings that will look lovely in a variety of settings. They can be displayed not only on a mantle but also on chair backs, bedposts, floor lamps and other similar places in the home.

I used multiple layers of three different interlinings in the body, cuff, and lining of the stocking to improve appearance and structure. All seams are double stitched or serged. The stocking is a traditional size, measuring 20 inches vertically from the top of the cuff to the bottom of the toe (not including the hanging loop), when it is hung as shown in the photos.

Because the quilt that I used for the stocking was well over a hundred years old, some of the fabrics are naturally somewhat worn and fragile, although I always choose sections that have as little aging as possible. The stocking will last for many more years if it is properly cared for and stored. While the stocking is durably made, I do not recommend that it be used as a stocking that will be filled with goodies at Christmas, only because of the age of the fabrics.

The shipping weight for the stocking is two pounds. Since Etsy cannot calculate shipping to different zip codes, shipping cost is given for the farthest U.S. destination. In many cases, the cost will be less, and I will refund the difference through Paypal immediately following shipment.
