'Box Seats' from Manon Lescaut by Alastair.
Chevalier Des Grieux sits beside his lover Monon Lescaut at the Paris Opera House.
This original 6" x 9.5" woodcut print is from the early 1930s. It's printed on heavy matte paper and is in lovely condition. It's tanned just a tiny bit to a light ecru color (think pale vanilla ice cream) printed in black ink.
'Box Seats' would be simply fabulous matted in poppy red and framed in either black or gold.
This piece is incredible. Definitely in the same lovely, nefarious realm as Aubrey Beardsley and Harry Clarke.
Matted. framed and displayed as a gallery grouping, these fabulous and weird vintage prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last two photos are to show how this might look when it's matted and framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.)
