This a very special piece, one I had been fabricating over the course of several months as the mood struck me and elements would come together. It started last Christmas with the hand drawn/sawn and chased sterling ivy leaves and were joined by the sparkling drusy (which reminded me of a field of stars) set in a crown-like setting, the hand drawn/sawn sterling moth and glass floral cameos. Each component would join the other in a porcelain sugar dish on my workbench and occasionally I would take them out and put them together, dreaming of what the finished product would look like. But it wasn't until I got my kiln that it all fell into place--with color! I added some handstamped and enameled copper charms and connectors, a hand drawn/sawn turquoise blue butterfly, and a bright green willow leaf. (Willows are one of my favorite trees; I think they are very magical.) The quartz crystal beads were the perfect way to connect all the components--hand wrapped with sterling silver wire--because to me they look like captured, crystalized moonlight. This necklace is meant to be worn long (it will hit somewhere around your waist) and closes with a handmade sterling clasp adorned with a tiny glass flower and my signature wild rose "Hedgerow Rose" on an enameled charm. A happy accident that I didn't foresee, but something I love about this necklace, is that it has a lot of movement when worn, and makes a lovely chiming sound from the charms. One of a kind!
