♛The Details

Divine ca. early 1950s dress of black taffeta, believed to be silk, bias-cut through the skirt. Classic paperdoll silhouette with a nipped waistline and very full, sweeping skirt. I have lightened some photos so you can see the amazing details: it's completely bedecked, front and back, with scrolling vines and flowers made out of passementerie braid, crochet lace appliques, and silver metal studs enclosing rhinestones. A showstopper! Side metal zipper. Only has its old size tag attached, but I am positive this intricately crafted dress is a designer piece.

Overseas shipping is by Global Priority Mail with Tracking.

Shown here over our crinoline, not included in sale but offered separately in our store if desired.

All accessories (belts, jewelry, crinolines, pins, etc.) are for style inspiration only unless indicated.

♛The Measurements

About a modern size M
Bust (underarm area measured flat, then doubled) best for 38"
Waist 28"/tight 29"
Hips Full
Bodice length, shoulder to waist seam 16 1/4"
Skirt length 30"

♛The Condition

Very good vintage shape and presents beautifully. It's not perfect, but has some of the typical issues that these old silk taffetas often have. The bodice fabric has 4 tiny nicks/scuffs (all but 1 are in the back), and the corners of the underarm seams each have a tiny, well-concealed professional mend; this area is always prone to damage, and I must say, unless you know to look, the mends look like part of the seaming. If you hold the skirt up and go over the fabric against a window's light, you'll find a few micro-holes, as is also very typical. This dress is still beautiful and full of amazing details, and with care is ready to wow a new generation.

Frequently asked questions about jumblelaya

Sorry, each garment in our shop is authentic vintage, dating from between 20 to 80 years old. We generally only have the one piece shown. We do not sew these items ourselves.

If you love it and it fits, consider buying it, since it's unlikely you'll find it again easily.
If it's older than, say, 1964 OR if you feel it fits our shop's aesthetic, absolutely! We pay fairly, generally 1/3 of retail, sometimes even more. Shoot us a note or set up an appointment to sell if you are in the Portland, OR metroplex!
Sure do! Convo us for an info sheet about it.
We do not have a brick-and-mortar shop, but we do have a private studio located on the banks of the Columbia River, directly across the river from Portland, OR. We offer LIMITED appointments currently, due to time constraints. But if you are serious about a piece or pieces you see, let us know and we'll set something up. Shop inventory is generally not kept in the studio, so you'll need to let us know ahead of time which garments you'd like to see in person.
