I found this runner or dresser scarf at the estate sale of an antique dealer. At first I thought this piece wasn't a true antique because the edges have an overlock stitch finish but then I learned that the serger was invented around 1884. This probably really is from the turn of the last century. The tapestry weave fabric has an art nouveau floral pattern. The colors have faded to earthtone shades of brown, taupe and dusty rose. The soft cotton velvet ends have aged to an old wine color. The metallic gold trim has an antique tarnished patina. The runner measures 52'' X 15''.
