In the 1800's Ebony was a costly wood & Victorian ladies & gentleman had vanity items (pots, trays, hair brushes, containers) made of solid ebony. (distinguished from 'ebonised' items with the stamp EBONY on their bases)
I love antique Ebony items & collect them & find them wonderfully useful as well as decorative.
This cylindrical ebony box with a curved screw off lid is in very good condition & measures 4 inches tall, by a smidge over1 & 1/2 inches in diameter. The bottom is stamped EBONY.
I have these on my table with my pills in them as they are far more attractive than a pill bottle.
This was probably used on a vanity for hat pins or hair pins. No limit to what you can use them for & they are very charming in a group.

This sale is for the ebony box or pot.
