20 + Heirloom Purple Hyacinth Bean Vine Seeds

Purple Hyacinth Bean seeds are something that have been handed down in my family for as long as anyone can remember. They're super easy to grow! The hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and all other pollinators love this vine.

This vine is a showstopper for sure! It has a deep purple red vine with green and red leaves. Now don't get frustrated because it can sometimes take a while for the flowers to come on, usually mid-summer but when they do WOW... The flowers go from dark purple to light purple and resemble a pea flower. After the flower a purple pod will form that resembles a lima bean. That's even pretty. Anything that can class up a chicken coop is okay in my book.

These vines do well in just about anything, containers or planted directly into the ground just make sure they have a fence or trellis to climb. You can plant your seeds outside once danger of frost has passed. Hyacinth Beans are not soil fussy and are pretty draught resistant. They will grow very fast once planted and bloom Mid-summer - Fall. The vine can be a perennial in frost free climate zones; all other zones it's an annual.

Although purple hyacinth beans are used as a forage crop in some parts of the world, they are not recommended for eating, as they have to be cooked in a very particular way otherwise toxic. Instead, they are best enjoyed as ornamental plants in the landscape.
