Hades’ Bite
Greek Seasoning
For meatballs, lamb burgers, pastas with tomato sauces & kabobs
Genie the Spice Goddess created this blend to please the most discerning and heat-loving of gods. Don’t worry, you won’t melt—but you will be tempted to have seconds.
Ingredients: Kosher salt, garlic, black pepper, dried onion, lemon peel, red bell pepper, dried parsley, green onion, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Genie’s special touch. 2.5 ounces
In Greek cooking, cinnamon quills (or sticks) and ground cinnamon are used when making roasts, meat sauces, sausages, marmalades, rice pudding, custards, and candies. My Hades’ Bite Seasoning has cinnamon and nutmeg.
Even as early as the days of ancient Greece, merchants imported spices from India and points further east. Spices imported to ancient Greece include cinnamon. These aromatics did not grow on Greek soil, and the process of importing them took month and even years. Arab merchants mostly carried these spices from the East and through the Mediterranean, sometimes risking their lives to do so. As a result of this distance and these hardships, imported spices were extremely expensive in ancient Greece, making them status symbols as well as seasoning tools.

I braised lamb shanks in a tomato sauce that was flavored with cinnamon. I love this flavor combination. My recipe for Greek Meatballs has cinnamon as well. Look on the product page to the right and purchase the recipes that have cinnamon in them and you will adore them.
