"O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die." -Shakespeare

This large mortar and pestle is entirely made up of heavy cast iron and is very old. The elderly woman we purchased it from indicated it was owned by her husband's grandmother, who was (by her account) one of the first female pharmacists in the state of Nebraska and used it in her practice.

This piece measures 7" tall and 7" in diameter. The pestle is approximately 9" long. The patina on this piece really sets it apart - it's clear it was well used over a long period of time! There are no markings on the item that would indicate its maker, which is consistent with other comparable mortars and pestles we've researched.

This is a great piece with a great history!
