Two years in the making!

Well, not consistently, of course. Here's the deal: I started this project two years ago, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. But making tile after tile, coordinating colors and trying to make it all fit together was more work than I had anticipated and I burnt out after a few days. I tried again a year later and once again ended up setting it aside. Then, recently I came across it and, with renewed vigor, determined to finish it once and for all. I really got into it and didn't let little frustrations deter me...and I'm very pleased with the result! I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it! It's so pretty!

The theme is nature inspired: flowers and leaves; butterflies and dragonflies, intermingled with design elements (incl some crackled gold leaf)...and all overseen by the sun. Colors are shades of pink, aqua, lavender, lime green, yellow and blue. Two of my favorite inspirational sayings grace the front...."Delight in Simple Pleasures" and "Hold Fast to Your Dreams"...both positive reminders of the joy of life. The sentiments are behind microscope slides edged in brass foil. The tiles were finished with a water based satin glaze sealant.

Frame is 10" square and the beveled mirror itself is 3 3/4" square, so the tiles are 3" deep all the way around it. The photos show the frame without the mirror simply because it was easier to photograph without the reflection, but the mirror is now glued in and no longer removable. The frame is made of wood and is painted gold on the sides and back. It hangs from two triangle hangers to support it's weight evenly.
