This is one of the loveliest 1940's suits I've ever owned!
Garments of this era are known for their elements of surprise and originality and this suit is no exception. The most striking detail is the curved lines synchronized throughout the entire suit.
Note the asymmetric front closures on the jacket. A series of buttons slant from center to outside at the neck and at the waist. Wear the top of the jacket buttoned closed or open for a wide, deep collar.
The curves start at these button closures on the jacket and continue with the front jacket pockets and the bottom edge of the jacket. The skirt continues the theme with the criss-crossed front peplum that wraps around the back, dipping lower in the center, echoing the lines of the jacket.
Fabric is cranberry colored wool. Jacket is lined with matching satin. Skirt is unlined.
Laara Dale Juniors of New York label.
Shoulders on the jacket are lightly padded, adding to the hourglass silhouette. Skirt features a wide, set-on waistband and side metal zipper.
Shown on my modern US size 4 mannequin, it fits her well.
Jacket measures 36" at the bust, 28" at the waist, and 15" at the shoulder. It is 24.5" from back neck to lower back edge.
Skirt measures 26" at the waist , approximately 38" at the hip and is 29.5" long. The waistband is 2.5" wide.
Excellent condition. The only flaw I found was a tiny hole, about the size of the head of a pin in the center back of the skirt.
