These cushion covers are hand made of Uzbek fabric which is called 'bekasab' (70/30 silk/cotton mix). The fabric is traditionally produced in Margilan, Ferghana Valley, Uzbekistan. It is as famous and popular here as ikat silk and certainly not less beautiful.

This fabric displays beautiful natural shades of fall and a highly sought moire pattern glistening under the sun and looking like wood texture or mokume gane. I added the last photo - a close-up made in the soft light of the afternoon sun - to show you this amazing wood-like texture and rustic silk roughness I am so fond of.

The colors are beautiful and I bought this piece because of them. Those are the colors of earth, wood, moss, berries and pumpkin: a lovely combination that stole my heart on the spot. What can be better for the upcoming autumn! I love these organic shades.

This is a traditional Uzbek fabric used for expensive national gowns. The striped pattern is not printed: instead, the threads are dyed in the variegated fashion based on complicated calculation so that to make them self-patterning. As the fabric is woven using primitive narrow wooden looms, the stripes appear magically.

This matte fabric feels wonderfully raw and cool to the touch (of course it is not scratchy, being silk and cotton - it is more like a moved lawn). You can this pillow cover for a decorative pillow or actually sleep on it - it is a sheer luxury.

Because the fabric is so narrow, we used natural non-dyed linen to frame it on the edges to avoid seams in the middle. We do not like seams, too.

The pillow case is two-sided with a Velcro fastening for convenience.

The listing is for two pillow cases. There is another one available separately here - http://www.etsy.com/listing/107311030/striped-pillow-cover-uzbek-silk-ethnic - so you can buy one, two or three, as you wish. .

This is your chance to own very limited edition pillow covers (actually all our items are one of a kind or very limited in quantity).

Dry clean only.

The silk scarf is for display only. You can find silk scarves in separate listings.

PLEASE NOTE:

We can custom make pillow covers (or about anything of Uzbek silk and cotton) for you, in desired size and color.

Our items are made by hand, in very limited quantity: no mass production here and we do not exploit anyone. We are a mother and a daughter team who do what they enjoy most.

Silk ikat should be dry cleaned. In theory, it can be hand washed cold with a mild detergent, but dry clean is preferred and I would not take the risk. If you wish, I can send you a small swatch of this fabric to experiment with. Crepe de chine and silk chiffon can be hand washed cold.

Occasionally you can see some irregularities in the silk fabric, such as slubs or uneven dye. We feel that they provide extra character to the items and do not mind. However, if you do mind, these items might not be for you. Please bear in mind that these are handmade fabrics, and they are produced in Uzbekistan in a rather primitive way.
