Here's some information about crystals;

Crystal beads are made of high quality glass. They have a distinctive sparkle and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Crystal glass is defined by the manufacturer and contains a specific lead content. At one time, the lead ingredient added weight to the finished product, which was taxed accordingly. That's when producers decided to cut expenses by faceting or cutting the crystal.

In chemistry and mineralogy, a term that describes a solid in which the atoms, molecules, or ions have been packed in a regularly ordered, repeating pattern that extends in three dimensions. The regularly repeating internal arrangement of the crystal's atoms determines its physical characteristics or properties, such as the number of its external plane faces. Crystals may be classified into seven systems, based on their symmetry: isometric (or cubic), trigonal, hexagonal, tetragonal, orthorhombic, triclinic, or monoclinic. Crystalline structures can occur in all classes of materials with all types of chemical bonds. Many gems are found in crystal form. Crystals can be identified by their individual optical properties and physical properties, such as hardness, cleavage, heat conductivity, and electrical conductivity. The term crystal also refers to quartz that is transparent and colorless, or almost so.
