Here’s a retrolicious title aimed at marketing bananas (still a vaguely exotic food in 1940) to the American housewife. As if simply peeling and eating them weren’t fun enough, there are LOADS of ways of incorporating bananas into family meals, including Broiled Bananas, Banana Mixed Grill (with hamburgers!), Banana Fritters, Banana Ham Rolls, Banana Cabbage Salad, Banana Raisin Sandwich and Banana Sweet Potato Casserole. And of course there are lots of baked goods and desserts! How about Banana Bran Muffins, Banana Dutch Coffee Cake, Banana Spice Layer Cake, Banana Cream Pie, Banana Upside Down Cake, Banana Pecan Ice Cream, Banana Milk Shake & more!

The last two pages some interesting tips and selling points: how to ripen bananas, how to mash them and even how to “flute” them for garnishes. And while “babies thrive” on them, kids like ‘em too and even “old folks find sweet ripe bananas…easy to chew!”

This softcover book is illustrated throughout with cheerful dancing, card playing, coffee drinking (and other very expressive, personified) bananas interspersed with black and white photos of the dishes. A real treat!

Unpaginated, approx 50 pages; measures 6x9 inches; 1940; Fruit Dispatch Company.

Condition: Very Good.
