A bit on the designer:

Born in France, Joset Walker was an incredibly innovative American designer. A classmate of Claire McCardell, she graduated from Parsons in 1928 and began her career designing for Broadway productions with Saks Fifth Avenue’s “Theatrical Department.” She then moved on to RKO Studios in Hollywood, where she designed costumes for many of its stars, including Katherine Hepburn and Irene Dunne. She was a leading proponent of ready-to-wear clothing -- still more or less a novel concept for high end designers at that time -- and by 1940 was the designer for wholesale dress manufacturer David Goodstein.

.......................

This dress is utterly exquisite and madly glamorous -- it will make you feel just like an old time movie star everytime you slip it on! It would make a beautiful wedding dress, but is also suitable for wear as an evening gown for any black tie occasion. Pair it with simple heels and sleek locks or a head full of Veronica Lake waves and look an absolute picture of glamour and grace. This dress looks like something that would have been worn by both 1940’s silver screen goddesses and their original mythological Grecian counterparts. Simple, elegant, and incredibly well-designed.

This beautiful designer dress was made over 60 or 70 years ago and is in phenomenal condition -- it is truly a treasure and very rare!!

♥ details + measurements

Best fits: xs
Label: Joset Walker
Fabric: rayon
Bust: up to 36 - 37 in. (meant to be a bit blousey)
Waist: 25 in.
Hips: up to 40 in.
Length of bodice: 16 ½ in. (meant to blouse, so will fit a shorter torso)
Length of skirt: 31 ½ in.
Total length: 48 in.

Excellent vintage condition with no tears or visible mends. There are a couple of very faint shadow-like spots on the bodice and a couple of even fainter ones on the skirt -- they are so light that I did not notice them at all until I was steaming the garment, and they are not at all eye catching; the camera was unable to pick them up. Due to the drape and slight sheen of the fabric, they really just look like vague shadows. This dress has been lovingly handwashed and is ready to wear!
