Vintage hat box from the 1950s, covered in glossy black paper with peach pink band around the lid. Inside is the natural board, a warm peachy beige. Still has part of its carry string in black and white swirl. From the once mighty Alexander's department store, which had locations in the Bronx and Westchester in the 1950s. Someone had used it for a "black and brown beaver hat" and labeled the side of the box.

Plenty big enough for a woman's hat but could be used for a man's, given the colors. Great storage piece or unusual mid century decor and a fun piece of retail history.

13" diameter x 7" high

Good condition: still intact and sturdy, not warped. Half the carry string. Holes intact. One tiny rip in the lid flange was repaired with a piece of tape long ago. The black paper covering is still shiny and inside as well as outside are nice and clean.

vintage 1950s hat box. Black and pink Alexander's Dept Store box. Mid century modern storage / decor / the BRONX BREAKFAST box
