This 16 x 16 inch Pillow Cover is made with a VINTAGE IKAT fabric: BLACK colour is decorated with RED-ORANGE geometrical pattern.

The pattern of the ikat describes family traditions and ancestral stories. This particular one is decorated with warriors playing Pasola, a war game tournament played by two groups of selected Sumbanese men. They ride their decorated selected horses fling wooden spears at each other. Pasola is a traditional ceremony of the Sumbanese held in the way of uniquely and sympathically traditional norms, since it is a part of the sacred homage to the Marapu ( a form of ancestral religion that is practiced mainly in the island of Sumba in Indonesia).

____I cut my pillow covers to the design to end up with better graphics. The handmade ikat is not regular so the draw can vary in cover made with same fabric.
____The fabric I used for this pillow cover is a VINTAGE HANDWOVEN IKAT from Sumba, Indonesia that dates back to 1960s.
The fabric is in perfect condition.

Most of the natural blues, reds, blacks, purples, and browns on traditional Indonesian textiles derive from two vegetable dyes: indigo blue, from the shrubs Indigofera tinctoria and suffruticosa, and morinda red, from trees in the genus Morinda. With patience and skill, master dyers carefully manipulate each ingredient in a dye recipe and each step in the dyeing process to obtain bright, muted, energetic, or quiet colors.

Handwash in cold water adding white vinegar to fix colours. Dry on a flat surface.
To wash this particular kind of texile textile, I suggest to use Synthrapol, a pre- or post-wash solution that prevents non-fast dyes from staining the cloth.
The safest way to remove dirt from a textile is to use a vacuum and a piece of mesh or window screen. Lay the cloth on a flat surface, and place the mesh or screen over the part of the cloth you want to vacuum. Set the suction very low, attach the pipe extension to the hose, and gently vacuum dirt off the textile through the mesh. The mesh prevents the cloth or any loose fibers from being sucked into the vacuum cleaner.
