This mid-century modern upholstered armchair was designed by Terence Harold Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb. Robsjohn-Gibbings was an English designer and decorator who found success in the United States after World War II creating pared down, elegant furnishings with a classical flair. He did custom commissions as well as furniture lines for Widdicomb, which made his designs accessible to a wider audience.

This chair has been recently reupholstered in a two-tone beige wool (down to the springs, all new material). Self piping at the edges. The seat is sprung, so it is firm but still comfortable.

Measures 31 inches high, 18 inches seat height, 26 inches wide, about 28 inches deep.

Unmarked, circa 1955.

Overall condition is good. There is some wear to the wood frame, with minor dents and scratches. The inside right arm has a few small losses. The finish is stained walnut, slightly uneven in spots, no lacquered finish. The upholstered seat and back are one unit that screws into the frame and can be easily removed, so if you wanted to do any work to the finish of the frame, it could be easily done.

This chair will fit in the back of my car and if you live somewhere between Ohio, Connecticut and Virginia, I am happy to deliver it to your door for a charge of $.50 a mile (I am 250 miles from New York). I can get this in and out of the car myself, but getting it in the house and up any stairs is all on you. Or---

I am happy to help arrange shipping, but be forewarned, it can be quite expensive ($400 and up).

Local pick up is always welcome.
