An absolutely delightful vintage silver dance compact which includes powder compartment and sifter, rouge compartment, mirror and coin holders. This would have been taken to dances and balls as an 'all in one' young woman's accessory early last century.

It is beautifully crafted and the exterior of the case features lovely detailed styling with elements from both Art Nouveau and Deco eras including an intricate floral design on the front. There is a scrolled initial engraved centre front - an 'A' or maybe a 'J'. The back has simple machined striping.

Inside the compact, one side has a section for the rouge and powder - notice the original little 'puffs' have crocheted tabs to lift them up. The powder compartment has a sifter that turns to release powder. A little loose powder and a rouge palette remain in place - incredible for the compact's 90 odd years of age.

The other side displays the mirror and two spring action coin slots both of which work perfectly. For fun, I'm including a couple of coins that fit beautifully - one is a 1932 Swiss coin and the other a French 1/2 Franc, just because Lady Liberté is so lovely.

Details: No makings but has the 'smell' of silver - silver plated over brass would be likely. The compact measures 1.8 x 3.2 inches (48 x 80mm) and weighs 107.6 grams so it is nice and heavy. It has a wristlet chain or the chain could be attached to a purse and the compact itself would be inside the purse.

Condition: The interior is in very good condition with one little speck of wear and a little clouding to the right side of the mirror as shown in the photo. There are no dents or corrosion of any type. The beautiful little ball latch and hinges are in great working order. The outside some very fine scratches and a darker patches on the front commensurate with age and use (please see photo 2). Generally, though this piece is in great shape.

This is an intriguing compact for a collection or as an ornamental piece for an antique dressing table.
