What a bright and whimsically hand painted big red paper mache turtle. On the bottom it is signed with a name I believe is "Arco", followed by Tonala, Jal. (Jalisco), Mexico. There is a fantastic bird painting on the shell, with fronds and flowers, and an elaborate scroll design all around the shell. The turtle's feet are painted with rounded stripes and graduated dots. It has giant kitschy eyes, with eyelashes. The colors include bright red, tan, black, white, and orange. On the underside is a sort of chartreuse to olive green color.

This is one fun, and big folk art turtle. I am guessing it is from the 1970's. It has some sort of shiny finish over the paint--lacquer? It measures about 18" x 15" x 7". It is in very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. The paint colors are vibrant. There is a tiny spot of paint loss on the bottom. This turtle looks great, and was well taken care of.

I am happy to ship internationally. Please convo me with your location, and I will provide you with a shipping quote. Please check out my other listings at Classic Crow. Thanks.
