Get your steampunk on with this authentic antique women's jacket. This meticulously tailored garment is like a piece of art - from the sculpted hourglass seam shaping to the long pleated tail, it is a beauty to behold! Total romantic gothic elegance.

The jacket is made from delicate black silk, and lined with a sturdy cinnamon brown fabric (see photo #4). It closes in front with sparkling jet glass buttons, and it has an elegant little hip pocket.

As you can see from the photos, the waist on the jacket was too petite to close around my dress form. I might have been able to squeeze it shut around my own waist, but I didn't want to put stress on the delicate silk, which already has some splits (see "Condition" section below for all the details).

A fantastic piece for display, pattern study, restoration, or costume wear.

{{Measurements}}

This garment will best fit a modern size XS or smaller, on account of the "wasp waist" - the seams on the silk are delicate, and you don't want to put stress on them.

Bust – 16 inches flat (32 doubled, with some extra space created by seam shaping)
Waist – 12.25 inches flat (25 doubled)
Length – Shoulder to center hem (not including tail) measures 20 inches
Tail length – 15.75 inches

This wonderful garment does show some signs of its age, though it should be wearable, with appropriate care and gentleness. It is a costume/special-occasion piece, not for everyday wear.

There are three missing buttons on the front, and one loose. The main issue, though, is the delicacy of the silk fabric. I found breaks in the silk in the upper right chest area, right waist, both arms, and the upper pocket edge. As you can see in the photo, the back center seam on the silk has opened. There are numerous spots of wear. The garment as a whole doesn't look too bad right now, but I do expect that the silk will continue to deteriorate.

The lining fabric is a sturdy cotton, and looks very good; perhaps you could restore the jacket by replacing the silk and keeping the authentic lining.

I haven't attempted to wash this garment, since it's so delicate. I think that cleaning should only be attempted by a professional who has experience with antique fabrics/garments. The jacket is not excessively dirty, though, and does NOT have any mothball/storage odor.
