How cool is this??? At a recent local estate sale in a very old house with lots of secret rooms, I found this vintage Ouija The Mystifying Oracle board tucked away in its original box! Parts of the box flaps are broken off, but are included -- which includes the original price tag from Marshall Field and Company for $3.95!!! Started as a parlor game in the 1800s, the popularity of the Ouija Board continues to this date.

I would invite you to discover for yourself the history of the Ouija, The Mystifying Oracle, and William Fuld yourself at From the board designs on that site, I believe this board dates to circa 1950, because of the stencil, the particle board, and the plastic planchette. Oddly, the box also states that "We have no branch factories or offices," which would predate the 1950s for sure.

Directions for use of the board are printed on the back of the box, as well as literature extolling the virtues and the entertainment value of the board. The box measures 22"x15"x1.5". The board measures 22" x 15" x about 5 mm. The beige plastic planchette is 6" long x 4" wide at the widest. It stands on three felt-tipped feet about 3/4" from the board. The viewing hole is about 1.25" in diameter.

This is a great game to play with your friends (I can remember playing this as a kid and being freaked out). It's a lot of fun! Though not marketed ever as an
occult treasure, many of those who believe in the occult use Ouija boards as well. Oh, the stories I'm sure this board could tell.
