The Story of A Happy Doll
by Lurline Bowles Mayol
illustrated by Fern Bisel Peat

Saalfield Publishing Company
Publishers for the Children
Copyright MCMXXVIII (1928)

This truly is a lovely book. When I found it among a stack of vintage schoolbooks at a thrift store, I knew I'd found a treasure.

The Story of A Happy Doll is about a dear old rag doll named Jiji Lou Jay who was found by Jenks the Junkman "sitting upon a pile of papers and rags, crying as if her heart would break." With a cast of characters worthy of an Oz book, and the feel good charm of Raggedy Ann.

Condition: Good antique condition. The binding is holding together rather well. The red cloth is pulling away from the boards, but is still intact. There are some pencil marks to the front and back cover, and numerous pencil drawings to the front and back blank endpapers and inside of covers. Corners are bumped and cover matter is coming away from the boards at the corners. Two pages (54, 55) are stained but the text is still completely readable. Pages are solidly intact.
