For hundreds of years, French homes had a 'garde manger' in the kitchen; a screen enclosed box to keep eggs, cheese, meats and fruit. From small table-top styles made for cheese and butter, to huge cabinet styles that could hold large portions of provisions, from rustic to ornate they were a common functional and mandatory part of culinary life.

This French farm-house style garde manger still retains it's store tag on the back and was made in 1968. It is a simple and rustic, with rusted functional hardware made of wood and board and measures 17"L x 12"W x 18" T
