This is a contemporary fiber art sculpture by me, Rachel Hunnicutt. It was hand crafted in a simple, natural color palette and the forms were inspired by photographs of coral reefs, especially the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia.

This piece is anchored in a vintage wooden bowl found at a second hand shop here in Tuscaloosa. I painted the bowl with several coats of robin's egg blue paint before adding the crochet pieces.

I love finding interesting forms in nature and am particularly interested in the ocean. I hand crochet each individual piece, then carefully arrange them and glue them securely in place. The process takes quite a bit of time, but begins to feel like a meditation as I form each part of the project. Much love and many good thoughts go into each piece I make.

It is so important to me that my work is original and includes special details - I hope you enjoy it!

Measures approximately 6 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches high.

The natural and green yarns are cotton, and the blue yarns are a linen blend.
