I'm sure this beautiful ring was originally used as an engagement ring....sapphires and diamonds were often used for engagement rings...in fact my own, my mother's and my grandmother's were all blue sapphire with diamonds....

Crafted of solid 18K white gold, the centerpiece of this ring is a lovely natural cornflower blue sapphire, approximately 6 mm in diameter and estimated to be approximately .65 to .75 carats. (I haven't removed the stone from it's mounting to weight it) It's such a lovely color....I would say light to medium cornflower blue and it's a bit lighter on one side of the stone. It has nice clarity and under my 14x loupe I see only light wear to the facets and girdle and a couple of teeny tiny nicks on one facet, consistant with age. To the naked eye it looks great! The sapphire is held in place with four decorative "fishtail" style Deco prongs...but the prongs show a lot of wear, and I would recommend having them retipped soon.....

On either shoulder is a classic Deco design with four small old single cut diamonds with milgrain detailing. (so a total of eight in the ring) These diamonds are approximately 1 to 1.5 mm in diameter and are pretty and sparkly...just right to set off the sapphire. They are all nice and white and eye-clean and look pretty clean under my loupe, too...though I am still working at getting years of grime off of them! I see only one teeny tiny very superficial little nick on one of them (seen only with high magnification)...otherwise they are in very good condition. They are bead-set and the settings show wear, but actually look pretty good still.

The face of the ring measures approximately 6.2 x 15 mm and the rise off the finger measures approximately 4.1 mm. The undergallery is pretty and decorative and allows light in to make the most of the stones color and sparkle....

The band is extremely pretty with lovely engraving of a leafy/feathery style on all three outer sides! Some of the engraving has softened with time and wear, but much of it is still quite crisp....it used to go all the way around the band, but the ring has been sized at some point so there is an interruption of the engraving at the very back, with a polished gold area used for sizing. (that will also allow for you to size the ring should you desire to) The sizing looks like it was done pretty well...they preserved the mark of "18K" though there is a very slight "wave" to the band at the very back. It's barely noticeable (and I think it adds charm) but this could be remedied by a jeweler if you like. There is a bit of thinning at the very back where it was sized, but not very much and the band is still nice and sturdy. One other thing to mention, is that the ring looks like it was once rhodiumed (probably when sized) and the lower portion of the band looks a bit warmer in color that the top....again, it's barely noticeable and could easily be remedided, but I want to mention it for accuracy. The total weight of the ring is a nice 2.65 grams.

Currently the ring is sized to between a 5.25 and 5.5 on my ring mandrel, and could be sized within reason by a good jeweler who is comfortable working with older jewelry. ** Please read my policies page for more information regarding sizing or feel free to convo me to discuss it or to obtain a quote from my trusted jeweler....I'm also happy to help locate a recommended jeweler in your area!

Wonderful as an engagment or wedding ring...or perhaps for a special anniversary.....or just a special treat.....

Please convo with questions and Thanks for looking!
